Nail Necessities: Biotin Babyyy

I am a big fan of nails. Long perfect nails. Nails that don't break.

Now, the best way to get those today is by getting fake nails: gels, acrylics, powder, silk-wrapped, ect. But I don't wear fake nails and so I have had to discover the various ways to keep my natural nails healthy, strong, and long. Biotin is one of my most favored weapons.

Let's discuss.

What is biotin?

Biotin, also known-as a Vitamin B-7, is a water-soluble complex B vitamin that supports adrenal function by turning food into fuel to produce energy.  Biotin also supports the nervous system and helps the body produce keratin.  More importantly, Biotin is needed for healthy hair, skin, eyes, liver, and nails!

Sources of Biotin?

Liver is a great source of biotin, but who the hell wants to eat liver everyday (or at all)?  Egg yolks are also a great source of biotin, but you'd need 3 per day to get your RDV (Recommended daily value).  The third, and most preferred, option are biotin supplements!

How does Biotin create longer and stronger nails?

1. Stronger: Biotin makes nails less brittle and less prone to split.

2. Longer: You can't actually make your nails grow faster but when the nails are not regularly breaking, it makes them feel and look like they are growing much faster.

Here are two supplements I recommend.

Note: I would never recommend something I haven't personally tried.

1. Country Life High Potency Biotin - 10mg capsule - 1 per day

Country Life is a tiny capsule.  I like it because it is non-GMO certified and vegan.  It contains no sugar, salt, soy, milk, artifical flavors, or fillers.  I also like it because it is 10mg instead of the normal 5mg.

2. Nature's Way - Alive! Hair, Skin, & Nails - 5mg of biotin gummies - 2 per day

Alive gummy vitamins are great because taking them is like eating a handful of Haribos - except each bite is chock-full of nutrients instead of high fructose corn syrup.  I love this vitamin because because even though it has less biotin than the Country Life capsules, it has a lot of other great nutrients in it including: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and hydrolyzed collagen.

It contains no dairy, yeast, wheat, soy, peanuts, or eggs. The vitamin is not non-GMO nor vegan certified.
