Listening to this Song Will Reduce Your Anxiety by 65%!

Stress kills.  It depresses your immune system.  It restricts your cognitive function. It changes your reaction and response time to everything.  If you do not actively work to manage and reduce your stress, it can kill you in the short term and it will kill you in the long term.  

I write a lot about healing through food and not nearly enough about mental health and the physical effects that stress and anxiety can have on the body.  Today I want to talk a little about a super easy way to manage your stress.

I was on twitter the other day and I saw a person tweet about a song that was created with the help of sound therapists that was proven to be effective in reducing anxiety by up to 65%… Obviously, I was intrigued. 

Marconi Union is a band from the U.K. that worked with a team of sound therapists to carefully curate the perfect blend of rhythms, base lines, arranged harmonies, and instruments to help slow the listener’s heart beat, reduce blood pressure, and lower the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. 

The song is called Weightless.

Making stress reduction a priority is not just about comfort but it is about your overall health and future wellness. Chronic stress and anxiety can lead to heart problems such as a stroke, cognitive issues like Alzheimers, acne, stomach ulcers, depression, asthma, obesity and more.  My ability to handle stress has always been one of my most challenging personal health battles so when I read about this song I was really excited to be able to add this to my toolbox of personal stress management. 

This song works, it actually works so well that Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson advises women not to listen to the song while they are driving because of the high risk of drowsiness due to the extreme relaxation. 

I can attest to this, I woke up early on Thursday and decided that I would start my day with the anxiety-reducing super song.  I laid in bed, feeling wide awake and decided to just zen out before getting up to make coffee. 3-minutes into the song, I was knocked out.  2-hours and who knows how many plays later, I popped up confused about where my day disappeared to.  

If you’d like an easy way to reduce anxiety, I’d suggest listening to the song before bed as you wind down or while you clean or do some other mindless task. 

Sometimes it seems that stressors are multiplying faster than the amount ways we can manage them, but this is a super easy and inexpensive way to manage your stress.  Give it a try.
