Me: Water? like Alkaline water? A poem?

Okay Friends, today we are talking about alkaline water!
Alkalinity has increased in popularity as health gurus and scientists all around the world purport that an alkaline body is less likely to get cancer and other deadly diseases. As with most natural health claims you can find people on both sides of the fence vehemently arguing that the other party’s claims are made up, are a part of an agenda, or are wrong. But as your Geenie, I’ll tell you, I love alkaline water and the way I see it, if all the claims are fake then I am just drinking overpriced water and if the claims are real then I am preventing cancer. It’s a win… and I love to win.
What is Alkaline Water?
Alkaline water is water that is less acidic than tap water.
The FDA has not (yet) evaluated alkaline water for health purposes but alkaline water is tap water that has been ionized with a machine and/or has nutrients that have been added to it.
How does the pH scale work?
The pH scale ranges from 0-14 and it measures how acidic or basic a substance is.
If the substance is lower than 7, then the substance is an acid. If it is above 7 it is a base or alkaline. Most tap water has a pH of 7, making it neutral.
Alkaline water has a pH of 8 or 9.
Can I make my own alkaline water?
A quick google search will tell you that you can make alkaline water with baking soda or you can buy an ionizing machine but why would you want to do that?!
A better recipe is to add lemon to your water. Lemon is acidic outside of the body (with a pH below 7.0) but when the water is metabolized inside of the body it has an alkalizing effect and raises the body’s pH above 7!
Why is everyone obsessed with it?
Because there is a theory that disease thrives in a body that is toxic and acidic and many people believe that a poor diet, an improper amount of exercise, and chronic stress can lead to a highly acidic internal environment. Some doctors believe that when the body becomes too acidic that cells become poisoned by their own toxic waste and die. Balancing the body’s pH is considered to be the single most important thing you can do for your health to prevent degenerative diseases.
According to the reputable Mayo Clinic, further investigation is needed to verify these claims.
